Karl Wallace Karl Wallace

Karl Wallace is a theatre director whose work includes: Can’t Pay, Wont Pay and Henceforward (Derby Playhouse); A Quiet Life by Nicholas Kelly (Abbey and Peacock Theatres); AliceChristmas Eve can kill you by Marie Jones (Lyric Theatre Belfast); Rhinoceros by Ionesco (Lyric Theatre Hammersmith, London); Albert Herring by Benjamin Britten and Bohemian Girl by William Balfe (Castleward Opera).

Karl was Artistic Director of Kabosh from 1997 to 2006. His work for Kabosh includes: Mojo-Mickybo by Owen McCafferty (Traverse, Lyric Hammersmith London, USA tour); award-nominated dance theatre performances Chair, Sleep Show, Strange and Oriana; the musical Sweeney Todd by Conor Mitchell and Karl Wallace; Romeo and Juliet; Misery by Simon Moore; Blue Remembered Hills by Denis Potter; Freefalling by Owen McCafferty; The Waiting Room and The 60 Second plays. Karl trained at the National Theatre Studio in London and has assisted at both the Open Air Theatre Regents Park for the NSC (As You Like It and Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Aristocrats by Brian Friel for Ben Barnes (Gate Theatre, Dublin). Karl was also a member of the English National Opera Chorus between 1980-1986. This is Karl’s first time working with Island. He has recently been appointed as Artistic Director of the Belltable and will take up his post in late September.
