MirjamGroteGansey Mirjam Grote Gansey

The stage designer Mirjam Grote Gansey has made a great number of productions for theatre, opera, dance, film and television. She designed sets and costumes for classical theatre repertory such as Racine’s Phedre and Andromaque; Ibsen’s When We Dead Awaken, The Lady from the Sea and Ghosts; The Cherry Orchard and The Three Sisters by Chekhov; the famous Dutch Gysbrecht van Aemstel by Vondel and so many others. She has also taken on the challenge of modern repertory such as Gross und Klein by Botho Strauss and much new repertory. She has designed for major dance companies in the Netherlands and was art director for famous films in Holland and Belgium. She designed set and costumes for many operas such as Orfeo ed Euridice (Gluck) for De Nederlandse Opera; Mahagonny (Weill); De Fliegende Hollander (Wagner); Rusalka (Dvorak); Creon (Huub Kerstens); Pelléas et Mélisande (Debussy) and many others.

She has designed great opening spectacles as well as theatrical artworks, installations and interiors. At the prestigious Quadrennial in Prague Mirjam Grote Gansey won the gold medal for the best individual designer for the depth, clarity and variety in her work. Apart from designing she has taught scenography at several academies of art in the Netherlands and abroad. Now she is teaching scenography at Masters level at the Frank Mohr Institute in Groningen.
